Machinist

About the role

For over 65 years, Columbia Helicopters has been a trusted provider of heavy-lift helicopter services. We create new aircraft, fly heavy-lift helicopters around the world, and provide maintenance support to ensure you are mission-ready for critical operations. The Machinist will perform manual machining, repairs and inspection on aircraft components and parts.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision aircraft parts.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
• Maintain, repair, and fabricate tools, dies, and fixtures.
• Inspect and test completed parts to ensure they meet specifications.
• Adjust machine feed and speed, change cutting tools, or adjust machine controls when automatic programming is faulty or if machines malfunction.
• Keep records of production output and equipment maintenance.
• Collaborate with engineers and other machinists to troubleshoot manufacturing problems.
• Perform routine maintenance on equipment and machinery used in the machining process.
• Follow safety protocols and ensure a clean and organized work environment.
• Train and supervise new or junior machinists.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in manual machining required
• Prior machining experience in aviation industry preferred
• Training and experience utilizing Lean methods in a production environment
• Ability to locate, read and follow the technical data appropriate for the assigned task
• Ability to use precision measuring equipment and hand tools appropriate to the assigned tasks
• Ability to work overtime and/or weekends as assigned dependent on production needs
• Ability to work in a shop environment or work outdoors locally or in remote locations as needed for customer support
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment
