About the Role

Assigned to the Machine Shop and Die room, this position reports to the operations supervisor. The role involves producing components used on production equipment and specialty application equipment, as well as maintaining tooling for progressive dies. Training will be provided to assist in the die room for sharpening progressive tooling for production equipment as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricates and machines metallic and nonmetallic parts, and fits and assembles machined parts into complete units, applying knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, machinability of materials, and layout techniques.
  • Operates conventional, special purpose, numerical control machines, and CNC machining centers.
  • Checks drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Adjusts program, speeds, and feeds required to maintain correct machining process.
  • Performs first piece inspection to guarantee part quality.
  • Works in die room, sharpening die components to specifications.
  • Records inspection documentation for ISO requirements.
  • Occasionally uses forklift to move material or equipment.
  • Maintains safe work practices and housekeeping programs.
  • Completes special assignments and other duties as assigned.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, grinders, and CNC machines.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, feeds, coolant flow, and depth of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Starts and observes machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
  • Sets up and operates machines on trial runs to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed data.
  • May install machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment and test operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
  • May operate welding equipment.
  • Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
  • Interprets engineered drawings.
  • Utilizes basic math skills and ability to read and communicate with others.
  • Uses basic hand and power tools.
  • Requires standing for long periods, bending, reaching, squatting, twisting, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area.
  • Possesses own machinist tools.
  • Utilizes COS (Carlisle Operating System) tools and training to identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost.

Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years of experience as a machinist; progressive die experience will be given serious consideration.
  • Ability to interpret engineered drawings.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Ability to read and communicate with others.
  • Ability to use basic hand and power tools.
  • Requires standing for long periods, bending, reaching, squatting, twisting, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Organized and able to maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Possesses own machinist tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Manual and CNC experience.
  • Progressive die maintenance experience.
  • CNC programming experience.
