About the role
Operates several different machines working with various materials, including steel, aluminum, titanium, plastic, silicon, and others. This role involves shaping materials, determining machine settings, and ensuring quality production of parts.
Responsibilities
- Determine settings of machine and calculate where to cut or bore.
- Shape materials such as steel, aluminum, titanium, plastic, and silicon.
- Determine feed rate and material removal for work pieces.
- Select tools and materials for each job.
- Plan the sequence of cutting and finishing operations.
- Position work piece on drill press, lathe, or milling machine.
- Monitor and control feed rate, speed, and temperature of work piece.
- Ensure work piece is properly lubricated and/or cooled.
- Detect problems by listening for specific sounds and adjust cutting speed to compensate for harmonic vibrations.
- Monitor the accuracy of cuts and replace dull cutting tools.
- Check accuracy of work against specifications.
- Determine how automated equipment will cut a part and establish cutting paths.
- Convert path, speed, and feed information into machine instructions.
- Use manual and computer-controlled machinery, write and modify basic programs.
- Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
- Maintain continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Document actions by completing production time sheets.
- Accomplish organizational goals by accepting ownership for new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value.
- Perform additional job duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma/GED or certificate in Machine Tool Technology.
- Equivalent work experience may be considered.
Physical Demands
- Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Frequently work from ladders and scaffolds.
- Occasionally required to sit.
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision.
Work Environment
- Regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock.
- Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.
