About the role

Under general supervision, the Machinist repairs and modifies commercial aircraft components and component piece parts. Machinists may occasionally perform mechanical assembly and disassembly work in addition to or in conjunction with typical machining functions.

Responsibilities

  • Accomplish machining, fabrication, and assembly or disassembly tasks as assigned, using approved technical data, manuals, or technical drawings.
  • Ensure conformance to product specifications and standards.
  • Confer with Lead or Engineering to resolve machining questions or problems.
  • Support Engineering during tooling and test fixture design and fabrication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Internal Progression Requirements

  • Machinist 1
    • Basic Lathe skills (e.g., turning material/fabricating small parts).
    • Basic Mill skills (e.g., swaging bearings, reaming bores, removing stock from raw material).
    • O.D. Precision Grinding skills.
    • Demonstrated competency in Mechanic 1 duties.
  • Machinist 2
    • Demonstrated competency in Machinist 1 duties.
    • Advanced Lathe skills (e.g., small parts fabrication, machining units to repair/modify).
    • Advanced Mill skills (e.g., small parts fabrication, machining units to repair/modify).
    • I.D. Hone Operation skills.
    • I.D. Precision Grinding skills.
    • Surface Grinding skills.
    • Completed On-the-job (OJT) Training of Level 1 Machinists with demonstrated success.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience in Aviation or MRO preferred.
  • Machinist 1: Minimum six (6) months of related work experience or equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Machinist 2: Minimum eighteen (18) months of related work experience or equivalent combination of experience and training.

Physical Demands

  • Sit, use hands and arms, talk, hear, and focus on objects close up.
  • Stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.

Pay

The base pay range for this position is $25.25 – $37.00 hourly, not including bonuses or benefits. Pay is based on experience, skills, education, and internal equity. This position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus.
