About the Role
You will work independently and as a member of the Target Fabrication and Engineering Team in the Engineered Materials Group, MST 7. Your primary responsibility will be receiving fabrication drawings and collaborating with fellow fabrication technicians to develop fabrication plans. Duties include the design, fabrication, programming, assembly/disassembly, testing, and modification of hardware.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate advanced tools to fabricate metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions.
- Use and interpret engineering blueprints, sketches, specifications, and related data to assist in design development, conduct operational tests, and troubleshoot malfunctions.
- Recommend modifications, document findings, and report results.
- Perform in-process quality control and inspection in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
- Work to technical objectives of assignments and exhibit collaborative behavior in a team environment.
- Machine a variety of materials using lathes, mills, drill presses, saws, and other industrial apparatus.
Requirements
- Accredited Machinist Certificate qualification (Machinist 3) or Accredited Journeyman Machinist qualification (Machinist 4).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Experience with CAD and CAM software.
- Formal training or experience machining a variety of materials with industrial machinery.
Qualifications
Machinist 3
- 4 years of experience machining custom fabrications from drawings.
- Associate's Degree (AAS) in Machining Technologies or equivalent precision metalworking program and 4 years of related experience; OR, 6 years of prototype experience; OR, Journeyperson qualification program and 4 years of experience.
Pay: $66,100 - $103,600
Machinist 4
- 6+ years of experience machining custom fabrications from drawings.
- Associate's Degree (AAS) in Machining Technologies or equivalent precision metalworking program and 6 years of experience; OR, 8 years of prototype experience; OR, Journeyperson qualification program and 6 years of experience.
Pay: $80,400 - $127,900
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with ultra-precision fabrication techniques.
- Active Q clearance.
Work Location
The position is onsite in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Clearance
This position requires a Q clearance, which typically requires U.S. citizenship. Selected applicants will undergo a background investigation. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required.
