About the Role
The Machinist 2 will perform set-up and operation of all manual machines and create minor CNC programs while editing existing programs (Mills, Lathes, & Grinders). The role involves machining parts to meet or exceed design specifications, ensuring quality, and documenting processes.
Responsibilities
- Prioritize safety in all operations, maintaining a clean and hazard-free work area.
- Inspect parts and materials for quality defects using calibrated measuring tools (Calipers, Bore Gauges, Micrometers, Thread Gauges, Depth Gauges, Height Gauges, Gage Blocks, Pin Gages, Hardness Testers).
- Read and interpret schematics, drawings, and geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T), collaborating with engineers as needed.
- Produce quality documentation, including non-conformance reporting.
- Machine parts to required specifications, including reading 2-D detail prints, creating straightforward programs, and adjusting machine tools (e.g., cutter compensation, tool diameter differences).
- Record proper set-up documentation and inspect in-process products to ensure compliance with requirements.
- Document measurements on inspection sheets as required.
- Operate work centers (lathes, mills, grinders, etc.) with strong knowledge of conventional machining techniques, speeds, feeds, and tool use.
- Machine various materials, including different grades of steel, aluminum, brass, PVC, and UHMW.
- Use traditional inspection equipment such as height gages, dial indicators, micrometers, and calipers.
Requirements
- 3–10 years of experience in a machine shop position.
- High School Diploma or equivalent; relevant job-specific experience may substitute.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and drawings.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Effective use of Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Mazak machine tools and Mazatrol.
- Inspection experience, including Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM).
- Tire/rubber industry experience.
- CAM software experience, particularly SolidCAM.
Work Environment
The role involves both office and manufacturing environments. Physical requirements include walking, standing, reaching, and sitting for up to 8 hours a day, with occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
