Position Overview
The Machine Technical Lead is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and optimizing all production machinery used in the manufacturing of Modular Closets components. This includes CNC routers, edge-banders, drills, saws, compressors, conveyors, and other woodworking or material-handling equipment. The ideal candidate is a hands-on technician with strong troubleshooting skills, leadership ability, and experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance & Repair
- Perform preventative maintenance on CNC machines, edge-banders, drills, saws, and other production equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues quickly and accurately.
- Complete repairs to minimize downtime and maintain production flow.
- Maintain logs of maintenance activities and machine performance.
Technical Leadership
- Serve as the lead technician for all mechanical and technical issues on the production floor.
- Train machine operators on proper equipment use, safety, and basic troubleshooting.
- Provide guidance to junior technicians or maintenance assistants.
- Communicate equipment status and repair needs to Production Managers and leadership.
Process Optimization
- Identify recurring mechanical issues and propose long-term solutions.
- Recommend upgrades, adjustments, or process changes to improve machine efficiency.
- Work with production teams to ensure machines are calibrated for accuracy and quality.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across the facility.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all equipment meets safety standards and OSHA requirements.
- Conduct regular inspections to identify hazards or maintenance risks.
- Enforce lockout/tagout procedures and safe repair practices.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance workspace.
Inventory & Parts Management
- Track and manage spare parts inventory for all major machines.
- Order replacement parts and supplies as needed.
- Maintain relationships with equipment vendors and service providers.
- Keep accurate records of parts usage and costs.
Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of experience as a maintenance technician or mechanic in a manufacturing environment (woodworking or cabinetry preferred).
- Strong knowledge of CNC machinery, edge-banders, pneumatic systems, and electrical troubleshooting.
- People leadership preferred.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and machine manuals.
- Experience with PLCs is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in a fast-paced production environment.
