Machine Shop Technician
What This Job Is
The Machine Shop Technician role is integral to a working machine shop at Boom, responsible for supporting the development of Superpower — a next-generation natural gas turbine. This role involves hands-on production support, including deburring and cleaning machined parts, performing light bench assembly, verifying dimensions, preparing parts for outside processes, marking and bagging hardware, maintaining machine tools, and operating a forklift.
What You'll Do
- Deburr, edge-break, and clean machined parts using hand tools, files, abrasives, and shop wash equipment
- Perform basic dimensional verification using calipers, micrometers, and gauges before parts move to the next operation
- Light bench assembly and fitting—pressing bearings, installing inserts, fitting mating parts
- Mask and prep parts for outside processes including anodizing, plating, and powder coat
- Mark parts using laser, electrochemical etching, engraving, stamping, or labeling per drawing requirements
- Bag, tag, and kit hardware so engineers and machinists can find what they need
- Maintain machine tools—perform scheduled maintenance tasks and flag issues before they become downtime
- Support CNC and CMM programming as skills develop
- Operate a forklift to move material, tooling, and work-in-progress around the shop
- Track consumables and supplies and flag when stock needs replenishment
- Maintain 5S discipline in your work area and contribute to shared spaces
Qualifications
- Hands-on experience in a machine shop or precision manufacturing environment
- Comfort with hand measurement tools—calipers, micrometers, gauges
- Familiarity with deburring, part cleaning, and prep for outside processes
- Forklift certification or willingness to get certified
- Enough experience in a structured shop to know what you don't want
What We're Looking For
- Thrives in a role where tasks are not prescribed; finds the next task immediately
- Treats every part the same regardless of supervision
- Says something when a part looks wrong, stock is low, or a machine sounds different
- Genuinely interested in CNC, CMM, or machining—curious about their workings
- Has worked in a place that didn't provide growth opportunities and is ready for a new challenge
