Position Summary
Machine Operator #3 sets up and ensures the machine works properly and conforms with company quality, quantity, efficiency standards and has advanced knowledge of grinding equipment, excellent troubleshooting skills, and a proactive approach to safety.
Job Requirements
- Understand of the mechanics of grinding machines
- Ability to follow written instructions
- Ability to follow property safety procedures
- Ability to determine whether grinding machine is working properly based on specification for expectation such as fixture, grinding speeds, and grinding rates
- Can satisfactorily complete and lead (help others) the following- Troubleshoot and Setup Cincinnati Grinder #3 (EAs or OMs) and Twin Grip grinding for OD ranging from 1" to 7" and up to 24' Length holding tight tolerances
- Knowledge of the Twin Grip Grinders, Meeco/Medart Straighteners, Chamfer Machines, Air Compressors, is a PLUS and a path to the next level (shift / cell lead)
- Minimum 10 years Centerless Grinding experience
- Leadership skills, working and leading others, for evaluation and preparation for the next level up
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate tools according to instructions, and specifications
- Studies blueprints, work orders, and other specifications to ensure the proper setup sequence is followed
- Select, places, and secure tools
- Place and secure workpieces in proper machine table
- Prepare fixtures and feeding devices, starts machine, and engages feed
- Observe each machine to verify quality performance
- Verify measuring instruments such as gauges, calipers, and micrometers are in proper working order
- Set and adjust necessary controls to regulate machines
- Sharpens tools with bench grinder as needed
- Performs other related duties as assigned

Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to walk, stand, sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel parts
- The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, and crouch
- The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more with appropriate assistance
- Must be able to be on feet (not sitting)
Work Environment
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Ear protection may be required for certain processes.
- Steel toe shoes and eye protection are required for all activity on the shop floor.
