Machine Operator IV (2nd Shift)

About the role

The Deep Draw/Udylite Operator works under the supervisor in the Fabrication Unit, setting up and maintaining deep draw, trimming, piercing, Udylite system, and grit blast machines. This position requires successful completion of specific training as outlined in the Marinette Operations Training Matrix.

The Machine Operator IV Non-Senior Operator reports to the Standard Products Production Supervisor. The primary responsibility is to maintain equipment up-time by ensuring proper materials are available, fixtures and wear items are changed at proper intervals, and a continuous supply of valve assemblies is provided to meet production requirements. Additional duties include daily calibration of test equipment, quality inspections, testing hourly samples, and recording required data. The role also involves daily preventative and predictive maintenance, following safety and work procedures, and interacting with supervisors, engineering, and management. The company may rotate employees to other departments or assignments as needed.

Responsibilities

• Sets up deep draw machine by inserting proper tooling (dies, spacers, rams) using an overhead hoist and attaching electrical switches.
• Starts up deep draw machine, checks oil levels and operating pressures, and inserts blanks while inspecting for defects.
• Inspects shells for quality and prevents metal build-up on dies; cleans and adjusts press and dies as needed.
• Changes or removes die sets or other tooling on deep draw, trimming, and piercing machines.
• Performs maintenance duties such as replacing filter screens, punch lights, and removing oil/sludge from machines.
• Adjusts conveyor systems to accommodate shell sizes using hand tools and hoists.
• Sets up and operates trimming machines, adjusting cutters, guides, and other tooling to prevent jam-ups.
• Sets up piercing machines by inserting head dies, adjusting index speed, and checking hydraulic oil levels.
• Operates Udylite System by managing steam lines, filling tanks, checking temperatures, and adjusting solution strengths.
• Starts up and adjusts grit blast machines to clean and blast shell blanks according to setup sheets.
• Performs material handling duties, such as moving shells and discs to and from work areas.
• Supports training and development of peers within the organization.
• Performs housekeeping and other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Good judgment and ability to stand, walk, and handle 3-10 pound blanks/shells continuously.
• Able to bend and work in awkward positions.
• Preferred experience with computerized automation equipment, semi- and fully-automated machines.
• Knowledge of basic mechanics and mathematics, with demonstrated analytical skills.
• Experience with testing and gauging equipment, including maintenance.
• Demonstrated experience with preventative maintenance and equipment setups.
• Ability to read and interpret prints, work instructions, setup instructions, and control plans.
• Ability to complete documentation and communicate effectively with supervision, engineering, and management.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and use computer software packages.
• Willingness to cross-train in other Machine Operator IV Non-Senior Operator roles.

Environmental, Health, and Safety Obligations

• Comply with safety rules and participate in safety training.
• Actively engage in the safety process, report accidents/injuries, and submit safety improvement suggestions.
• Know emergency procedures (fire, chemical spills, tornados, etc.) and act as a safety coach for others.
• Obtain Lock-out tags after 6 months.
• Attend hazardous and non-hazardous waste training; recognize chemical hazard labels and manage spills.
• Know air shutoff locations and follow satellite accumulation rules for hazardous waste management.

Pay

$29.52 - $31.54 per hour (determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, internal equity, and market alignment).

Schedule

2nd shift: 1:30 PM – 9:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with overtime as needed.
