Machine Operator I

Responsibilities

• Reviews 2D & 3D CAD design blueprints
• Programs 3 axis CNC plasma and laser cutting table using Hypertherm’s Pronest offline programming software
• Performs duties including grinding, deburring, cleaning of parts, cutting, and removal of scrap
• Selects correct cutting tips and other attachments
• Sets correct controls for speed, feed rate, depth, and angle, or pressure and temperature
• Checks geometric layout of flat patterns for accuracy in part production
• Measures finished workpieces to ensure they are the right size and inspects for defects using meters, gauges, and precision instruments
• Determines the sequence of operations in a program
• Makes improvements to set-up times and contouring of complex shapes
• Operates Niagra ¼” Shear
• Complies with all safety rules and regulations
• Operates overhead cranes to move materials and parts as needed

Requirements

• Education & Training: Requires high school diploma or equivalent and 1-3 years related experience preferred (some college coursework or technical school knowledge preferred)
• Must have the ability to read blueprints
• Manufacturing background (education/experience) preferred
• Adequate reading comprehension skills
• Good math skills, especially algebra, trigonometry, and physics
• Excellent problem-solving skills
• Excellent time management, organizational, and planning skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Highly detail-oriented
• Mechanically inclined

Technical Requirements

• Strong attention to detail
• Good mechanical aptitude and familiarity with machines of various types
• Strong math skills to include decimals and fractions, as well as a strong understanding of geometry
• Ability to read and understand drawings and blueprints
• Ability to measure and work with tight tolerances
• Ability to perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed
• Ensures machine is calibrated and cleaned
• Visualizes objects in three dimensions from drawings

Physical Requirements

• Performs climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing for long periods of time, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping
• Coordinates the use of eyes, hands, and feet
• Maintains physical strength and stamina
• Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
• This position requires the incumbent to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment

Working Conditions

• Subject to hazards such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, and electrical current
• Subject to air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids

Pay Range

$17.00-$20.00 per hour
