About the role

The Bodymaker Maintainer operates and controls bodymaking machinery to ensure efficient, high-quality production of beverage can bodies. This role supports quality and safety initiatives, mentors less experienced operators, and promotes process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and control bodymaker machines with a high level of expertise to ensure efficient, high-quality production of beverage can bodies.
  • Set up machines according to production specifications, including can size and material type, support production start-ups and changeovers independently.
  • Load raw materials and monitor material flow to ensure continuous production, coordinate with supply chain personnel for timely replenishment.
  • Monitor production to ensure quality standards are met; perform in-process inspections and make necessary machine adjustments to correct defects such as dents or shape inconsistencies.
  • Perform regular and preventive maintenance tasks, including cleaning, lubricating, and making mechanical adjustments or minor repairs; diagnose and report complex issues to maintenance teams.
  • Troubleshoot machine-related problems to minimize downtime and support root cause analysis in collaboration with maintenance or engineering teams.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including production output, quality issues, and equipment performance logs.
  • Support and guide less experienced operators; share best practices and provide informal mentorship on machine operation and quality standards.
  • Promote and adhere to all safety protocols; use required PPE, maintain a clean work area, and report safety concerns or hazards immediately.
  • Identify and contribute to process improvement efforts to increase production efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance overall performance.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); plus 3–5 years of experience operating or maintaining production machinery, preferably in a can manufacturing plant.
  • Previous experience with advanced machine setups, changeovers, and quality control.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain consistent quality standards.
  • Basic knowledge of a variety of computer software applications, in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
