Machine Learning Software Engineer 1

About the Role

We work on medium-term machine learning projects (1-6 months) with a high degree of autonomy. To support the Data Science Team's goal of a “Culture of reuse: tools, products, and processes,” the Toolkit Team focuses on developing generalizable tools for common problems and facilitating code sharing within and between projects.

Responsibilities

• Work within the Data Science Team to identify common problems and opportunities in the existing codebase to solve current and future challenges.
• Develop libraries and services to address common requirements for machine learning products.
• Collaborate with data scientists to transition machine learning models from prototype to production.
• Champion the use and adoption of Toolkit libraries and services.

Required Skills

• Programming experience: Proficiency in Python is preferred; familiarity with lower-level languages (C/C++, Go, etc.) is a plus.
• Software engineering experience: Comfortable with algorithm design, data structures, Linux-based systems, and Docker for developing and delivering RESTful APIs. Experience with cloud computing, distributed systems, CI/CD, etc., is advantageous.
• Capacity for autonomy: Ability to manage time between research and tool development.
• Strong communication skills: Adaptable communication style for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Adaptability: Ability to shift context and approach problems flexibly.
• Detail-oriented: Focused on creating robust, well-documented, and thoroughly tested tools.

Pay

A reasonable estimate of the current range is $62,000 - $100,000 per year. The wage range considers factors such as skill sets, experience, licensure, certifications, and business needs. The disclosed range has not been adjusted for geographic differentials.
