Role Responsibilities

• Train transformer-based language models from scratch and fine-tune open-weight models.
• Optimize the use of limited data and compute resources.
• Construct training corpora from raw web-scale sources.
• Build and refine post-training pipelines.
• Diagnose and resolve training issues to enhance model performance.
• Work independently and asynchronously to meet project goals.

Qualifications

Must-Have

• 3+ years of machine learning research experience.
• Strong experience with PyTorch, JAX, TensorFlow, or similar ML frameworks.
• Degree from a top-100 university, experience at a FAANG or comparable AI company, or an equivalent research track record through publications or impactful open-source contributions.

Preferred

• Experience in scaling laws and training-efficiency research.
• Knowledge of curriculum learning and data ordering.
• Expertise in LLM evaluation, including benchmark construction and contamination control.
• Familiarity with reinforcement learning for language models.
• Understanding of model alignment and AI safety.

Compensation

$100–$120/hour
