MAC-LIFEGUARD

Part-time position located in East Lansing, MI. Includes a free MAC membership.

About the role

Under the supervision of the Aquatics Supervisor, the lifeguard is responsible for the safety and welfare of all participants in the pool area and on the pool deck. The role involves providing assistance to patrons, communicating aquatics rules and regulations, and maintaining a clean and safe environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide proper safety for all patrons.
• Use preventative lifeguard skills by enforcing established pool rules and guidelines.
• Maintain a kind, helpful, and polite approach toward all patrons.
• Attend and complete all training sessions.
• Maintain the cleanliness of the pool area, including rescue equipment, the deck, and the aquatics office.
• Keep accurate, up-to-date pool attendance records.
• Test pool chemicals as required.
• Fill out schedule requests and find substitutes for any shifts you cannot work.
• Assist in the preparation of pool and tennis domes each season.
• Support special events, overnights, and other activities as assigned.
• Represent the MAC professionally and demonstrate commitment to its philosophy, mission, goals, policies, and procedures.

Requirements

• Must pass a lifeguard skills test prior to employment.
• Must possess and maintain current American Red Cross CPR/AED for the professional rescuer, First Aid, and lifeguard training certifications.
• Must pass American Red Cross Preventive Disease Transmission and Administering Emergency Oxygen Training within 60 days of hiring.
• Must be working toward a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be well-groomed and professional in appearance.
• Must communicate positively with staff, the public, and teammates.
• Must be willing and able to work well with people of various backgrounds and beliefs.

Preferred Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
