Position Summary & Highlights

At Saint Alphonsus Health System, we are seeking a Medical Assistant (MA) to join our Occupational Medicine clinics in Boise, Nampa, and Caldwell. This position offers a dynamic environment where you can work as a float between clinics, providing a mix of patient care and administrative support.

Position Summary

Occupational Medicine clinics work closely with employers to manage work-related injuries and illnesses. As a Medical Assistant, you will provide direct patient care, process paperwork, and navigate the workers compensation system. You will also assist in the front office, handling patient check-ins, insurance verification, and other administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Work as a float in Occupational Medicine clinics in Boise, Nampa, and Caldwell, assisting patients with various medical procedures and navigating the workers compensation system.
  • Assist in the front office, performing tasks such as checking in patients, verifying insurance, and handling administrative duties.
  • Perform duties in the back office, including drug screen collection, breath/alcohol testing, pulmonary function testing, TB testing, vaccinations, spirometry, EKGs, and audiograms.
  • Communicate with sureties and specialists regarding referrals and process workers compensation claims.
  • Work in the front office 2 days per week, primarily in Caldwell, but may work at other clinic locations as needed.
  • Occasionally float to other Occupational Medicine clinics in the valley based on service line needs.
  • Gain certification in drug testing collection, breath/alcohol testing, and pulmonary function testing.
  • Enjoy a flexible schedule, potentially working 4 days a week with a 4-day 9 or 10 hour shift work week once fully trained.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required at hire.
  • MA certification required within 90 days of hire from one of the following Saint Alphonsus approved agencies: American Association of Medical Assistants (CMA), American Medical Technologists (RMA), National Healthcare Association (CCMA), National Center for Competency Testing (NCMA), National Association of Health Professionals (NRCMA), American Medical Certification Association (CMAC), National Phlebotomy Certification Examination (NPCE MA).
  • New Graduates: MA certificate of completion required from an accredited program or school. Completion of either a 100-hour MA externship or 6 months MA experience in lieu of the externship hours even with MA certification.
  • MEDICAL ASSISTANT WITH EXPERIENCE: 1 year of MA experience OR current MA certification OR obtain or renew certification within 90 days from hire from approved credentialing agencies listed above.
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers certification from AHA, ARC, or the Military Training Network is required at hire.

Qualifications

  • Bilingual in Spanish or have a medical interpreter certification preferred.
  • Experience with providing high-level customer/patient service and a high level of compassion.
  • Understanding of workers compensation as it pertains to occupational medicine.
  • Open and honest, enjoying providing feedback and solutions to resolve problems.
  • Strong time management and prioritizing skills.

Skills

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Knowledge of workers compensation laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
