About the Role

Saint Alphonsus Health System is seeking a passionate, team-oriented, and compassionate Medical Assistant to support a new Medical Oncologist at the Boise Cancer Institute. This position will coordinate and partner with the clinical care team to support all aspects of patient care during treatment at our leading cancer program in Idaho and Eastern Oregon.

The Saint Alphonsus Cancer Institute offers advanced diagnostic tools, precision radiation therapies, integrated care plans, support programs, and the region’s largest clinical trials, providing seamless care for patients and families.

Responsibilities

  • Complete chart preparation and assist patients with moving within the clinics.
  • Room patients, take vitals, review medications, and set up for minor procedures.
  • Manage computer-based tasks including work queue items, scheduling new and follow-up patient appointments, procedures, and related paperwork.
  • Support a fast-paced clinical environment with strong multitasking, communication, and self-initiative.
  • Utilize strong computer and technology skills; experience with Epic is a plus.
  • Build relationships with patients and work collaboratively as part of a strong team.
  • On days the provider is not working, travel to other Cancer Institute locations in Nampa and Caldwell to help cover staffing needs (mileage reimbursement provided).

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required at hire).
  • MA certification required within 90 days of hire from one of the following approved agencies:
    • American Association of Medical Assistants (CMA)
    • American Medical Technologists (RMA)
    • National Healthcare Association (CCMA)
    • National Center for Competency Testing (NCMA)
    • National Association of Health Professionals (NRCMA)
    • American Medical Certification Association (CMAC)
    • National Phlebotomy Certification Examination (NPCE MA)
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers certification from AHA, ARC, or Military Training Network (required at hire).

Qualifications

  • New Graduates:
    • MA certificate of completion from an accredited program or school.
    • Completion of either a 100-hour MA externship or 6 months of MA experience in lieu of externship hours (even with MA certification).
  • Experienced Medical Assistants:
    • 1 year of MA experience OR current MA certification OR obtain/renew certification within 90 days from hire.
  • EMT and CNA certifications do not qualify for this MA position.

Schedule

  • 40 hours per week, 4 - 10 hour days (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays; Wednesdays off).
  • Hours: Approximately 7:30 AM – 6:00 PM (varies based on provider schedule).
  • No weekends or major holidays.

Location

Primary clinic: 1055 N. Curtis Road, Boise, Idaho 83706 (I-184 & Curtis Road). Occasional travel to Nampa and Caldwell locations may be required (mileage reimbursed).
