Volunteer Opportunity Details Volunteer Opportunity ID: 4870 Description of Duties: Skills M.A.D. Camp is a 2-week wellness-centered summer camp for youth ages 12-17 in Winnipeg. The camp focuses on mental health, music, art, and dance, providing a safe place for students to grow their skills and receive peer support. Sessions run all throughout the summer (4 separate, 2-week-long sessions) Monday to Friday, 9 am to 4 pm throughout August We are in search of volunteers experienced with, and willing to: Assist in the facilitation of art sessions, speaking workshops, and in settling of campers for presentationsAssist in safe off-site adventures (the Forks, Zoo, neighboring parks) with a large group of youthMaintain positive and caring connections with campers; providing peer support when necessaryCommit to creating and maintaining a healthy, safe, and non-judgmental environment for youthAdhere to all policies and procedures outlined by Manitoba Government, MDAM, and M.A.D. CampHelp set up, clean, and tear down events + activities (art projects, music equipment, camper lunches) Other duties as necessary (on a per-event basis or by request of the coordinators) Skills Required English language proficiencyPrevious experience with youth or young personsLived or working experience with mental healthArtistic, creative, musical, or dance talent/inclinationsOrganizational and leadership skillsSituational awareness and presence during off-site visitsExcellent interpersonal skillsWell-developed listening skillsKnowledge of non-violent crisis intervention and conflict transformation skills (strong asset)Knowledge of peer support or mental wellness (asset - training will be provided) Skills Gained/Related Careers Peer SupportMental Health SupportLeadership, direction, and Mentorship of YouthProblem-solvingJudgment, Situational awarenessConflict transformation Age: 18-30, 31-54, 55+ Time Commitment: Daytime Every 1st Monday (August 14) from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pmEvery 1st Tuesday (August 1, 15) from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pmEvery Wednesday (August 2, 9, 16, 23) from 12noon to 3:30 pmEvery Thursday (August 3, 10, 17, 24) from 12noon to 3:30 pmEvery 1st Friday (August 4, 18) from 9 am to 11 amEvery 2nd Friday (August 11, 25) From 1 pm to 4 pm Please note, these are all of the available times. Volunteers are asked to choose the shifts they are able to commit to. We are looking for 3 volunteers for each time slot.
