Responsibilities
- Responsible for the evaluation, administration, and oversight of evidence-based occupational or physical therapy services provided to individuals with Lymphedema.
- Use specialized skills to promote goals of prevention of dysfunction and restoration of function in order to enhance quality of movement and daily living skills for individuals with Lymphedema.
- Develops and updates appropriate plan of care in collaboration with the patient/family.
- Act in accordance with physician referral guidelines, state and national organizational standards, regulatory agencies, and established departmental policies and procedures.
- Embody strong customer service skills and communicate in a concise, tactful manner with physicians, co-workers, caregivers, family members, patients, and other healthcare providers.
- Supervises and guides the Lymphedema Therapy Services Assistant and physical therapist or occupational therapist assistant.
Requirements
- Masters in Physical Therapy from an accredited university approved by the APTA or a Master's or Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university approved by the AOTA.
- Lymphology Association of North America (LANA) - Certification LANA Certification or eligibility to sit for exam Required.
- National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) - Certification Occupational Therapy Occupational Therapy License Required.
- Physical Therapist - License Physical Therapy Physical Therapy License Required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university approved by the AOTA.
- Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited university approved by the APTA.
Skills
- Skilled in the use of therapy techniques, including therapeutic activities, manual techniques, activities of daily living training, and modalities as indicated.
- Ability to provide verbal and written instructions to patients, caregivers, and family members as needed.
- Strong clinical reasoning skills in synthesizing data gathered in the evaluation and identifying diagnosis.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to enhance and encourage collaborative staff relationships.
- Knowledge of occupational therapy or physical therapy techniques through continuing education courses, professional journals, etc., as well as DNV and Medicare requirements.
