About the role
The Senior Vocational Nurse (VOC) in the Urology clinic at UC San Diego Health supports patient care activities. This includes patient triage, preparation for urology examinations, medication administration, collection of laboratory tests, patient education, and assisting with rooming and vital signs.
Responsibilities
- Prioritize and assist in patient triage processing
- Prepare and assist with urology examinations
- Administer medications
- Collect and prepare laboratory tests
- Provide patient education
- Absorb and complete vital signs as needed
- Assist with pre-procedure data collection
- Work with physicians and teams during procedures
- Assist in post-procedure recovery areas
- Administer medications as per state and UCSD scope of practice
- Participate in patient and family education before and after procedures
- Assist with sterile processing of instruments
- Room turnover, adhering to UCSD Medical Center Policies (MCPs)
Requirements
- License as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) issued by the state of California
- BART or BLS certification at time of hire, with commitment to obtain BART within six months of hire
- A minimum of two (2) years of LVN experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of universal precautions and proper use of body mechanics
- Ability to take initiative, prioritize critical demands, exercise independent judgment, and work in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual: English/Spanish
- ACLS and/or ART certifications
- Ambulatory Care experience
- Experience with Urology nursing procedures such as catheter changes and bladder instillations
- Experience with sterile fields and assisting with sterile procedures
- Experience with urology procedures, including prostate biopsies and cystoscopies
- Experience with EPIC/electronic medical record
