About the Role

Under the Direction of the LVN Supervisor and guided by the policies and procedures of Ambulatory Services, the Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides care to OBGYN, UCSF Department of Women's Health. The LVN will play a critical role in the patient experience including optimizing clinic flow, providing in and outreach to patients and working collaboratively with the team to create a patient centered environment.

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the physician and nursing staff, has the clinical responsibility for maintaining a safe environment for patients and staff, and for daily operations.
  • Works closely with others and is flexible in dealing with changing priorities.
  • Synthesizes knowledge of practice operations in order to problem-solve, prioritize and facilitate complex transactions in the course of daily activities.
  • Administers medications, assists with a variety of procedures, practices basic assessment of patient medical and psycho-social needs, participates in patient education, and assists medical providers in a variety of ways.
  • Individualizes all components of nursing care to meet the patient's physiological and psychosocial developmental level and needs.
  • Works well with minimal supervision in a complex, fast pace and challenging environment.
  • Is sensitive to the needs of patients, staff, and providers at all times.
  • Makes a difference for patients in an outpatient care unit by providing excellent nursing care and customer service, facilitating and ensuring the accuracy of the information flow between medical, hospital staff and departments to maximize unit efficiency.
  • Consistently projects a professional and courteous demeanor and demonstrates UCSF's PRIDE values and the AIDET fundamentals of communication in all patient care and stakeholder interactions.
  • Utilizes computer skills in ApeX and other UCSF computerized programs.
  • Supports the standards of the policies and procedures of the practice and is responsible for maintaining current knowledge of pharmacology and competency in modes of administration.
  • Complies with all Ambulatory Services and Medical Center policies and procedures for infection control, safety, and administrative and clinical practice.
  • Adheres to the Telephone and House Standards as adopted by the Medical Center.

Required Qualifications

  • Three years related experience in fast paced OBGYN Ambulatory environment.
  • Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced OBGYN setting.
  • Experience providing injections and drawing labs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • LEAN methodology
  • Ambulatory/outpatient experience
  • Urology or Surgical clinic experience

Licenses and Certifications

  • Licensed as a Vocational Nurse in the State of California.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS Certificate.
