About the role

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, Licensed Vocational Nurses participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care. They collaborate with other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes. Licensed Vocational Nurses interact effectively with patients and significant others while maintaining the standard of professional nursing. They provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients with a predictable outcome based on the application of scientific nursing principles. Due to the broad range of medical conditions they encounter, they must be well-versed in a large variety of health conditions. Licensed Vocational Nurses have a professional obligation to participate in committee activities, surveys, and improvement initiatives. They must also uphold the standards of the Texas Nurse Practice Act and practice within their defined scope of practice.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care under the direction of a Registered Nurse
• Collaborate with other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes
• Provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients with predictable outcomes based on scientific nursing principles
• Participate in committee activities, surveys, and improvement initiatives
• Uphold the standards of the Texas Nurse Practice Act and practice within the defined scope of practice

Requirements

• Completion of Vocational Nursing Program or Associate’s Degree in Nursing

Licenses/Certifications

• Licensed Vocational Nurse
• CPR-BCLS
