About the Role

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, Licensed Vocational Nurses participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care. They collaborate with other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes. Licensed Vocational Nurses effectively interact with patients and significant others while maintaining the standard of professional nursing. They provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients with predictable outcomes based on the application of scientific nursing principles.

Due to the broad range of medical conditions they encounter, Licensed Vocational Nurses must be well-versed in a large variety of health conditions. They have a professional obligation to participate in committee activities, surveys, and improvement initiatives. Additionally, they must uphold the standards of the Texas Nurse Practice Act and practice within their defined scope of practice.

Requirements

  • Completion of Vocational Nursing Program or Associate’s Degree in Nursing
  • No previous experience required
  • Licensed Vocational Nurse certification
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale certification (required before completion of orientation)

Skills

  • Ability to input data into computer programs
  • Familiarity with rehabilitation equipment
