Essential Functions

  • Maintains and documents patients undergoing physiologic sleep studies.
  • Maintains and tracks equipment and supplies.
  • Completes record keeping and charting.
  • Solves both technical and interpersonal problems.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, providers, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Uses computerized and mechanical equipment efficiently.
  • Performs overnight Polysomnographic studies, using various modes of Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) therapy interventions.
  • Performs Home Sleep Apnea Tests (HSAT).
  • Obtains 10 Continuing Education Credits (CEC) related to sleep medicine annually.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Degree or GED
  • Current Certified Polysomnographic Technician (CPSGT) credential
  • Specific certifications or skills as required by facility or patient population (i.e. PALS, ACLS, NRP)
  • BLS Certification or RQI for Healthcare Providers
  • Available to work varying shifts, including night shift
  • Certified Polysomnographic Technicians must obtain the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) credential within 18 months of initial hire/transfer.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Clinical or patient care experience
  • Anatomy and medical terminology courses
  • If working in Idaho, PSGT Permit issued by the Idaho State Board of Medicine

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, documents, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and assess customer needs.
  • Frequent interactions with providers, colleagues, customers, patients/clients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy.
  • This includes frequent computer use for typing, accessing needed information, etc.
  • May have the same physical requirements as those of clinical or patient care jobs, when the leader takes clinical shifts.
  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
