Requirements

• Two years of post high school education or higher, or ability to pass a standardized test approved by the state of South Dakota for designated Education Assistant positions.
• At least one year of work experience in a position requiring interpersonal interaction skills and knowledge of strategies to support students with social, emotional, and behavior needs.
• Experience with behavior management.

Physical Requirements

• Requires constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination, hearing, frequent bending over, crouching, reaching, removing, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, threading, turning, and walking.
• Frequent carrying, grasping, holding, lifting, opening, pulling, unfolding, and unlocking.
• Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Escorts students to transportation and other areas of the building.
• As needed, provides personal care to students with special daily living needs (e.g., toileting, feeding, physical management).
• Provides review and practice of skills taught by a teacher with students 1:1 and in small groups in special education classroom and/or regular classroom.
• Works with students in schools and on community outings.
• Prepares instructional materials as directed/selected by teacher.
• Reinforces instructional/behavioral objectives.
• Provides clerical assistance to maintaining student records (charting, assignments, attendance, data for progress notes).
• Assists with the supervision of students during recess, lunchroom, and on the playground.
• Maintains the confidentiality of students and their families.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Pay

Starting at $18.42 per hour + $1,000 Sign-On Bonus. Pay Day: Last working day of each month, based on the payroll cutoff schedule.

Schedule

• Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 2:00 pm with a 30-minute unpaid lunch.
• 0.5625 FTE, 22.5 hours per week, 9 months (2026-2027 school year).
