Requirements
- Two years of post high school education or higher, or ability to pass a standardized test approved by the state of South Dakota, for designated Education Assistant positions.
- At least one year of work experience in a position requiring interpersonal interaction skills and knowledge of strategies to support students with social, emotional, and behavior needs.
- Experience with behavior management.
Physical Requirements
- Requires constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination, hearing, frequent bending over, crouching, reaching, removing, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, threading, turning and walking.
- Frequent carrying, grasping, holding, lifting, opening, pulling, unfolding and unlocking are also required.
- Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally.
Responsibilities
Lunch Education Support Professional
- Monitors and responds to student behavior at meal times.
- Reports incidents requiring discipline.
- Assists with playground equipment.
- Serves lunches, helps with clean up.
- Administers first aid.
- May be requested by administration to transport students using personal vehicle.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Special Education Support Professional
- Escorts students to transportation and other areas of the building.
- As needed provides personal care to students with special daily living needs (e.g., toileting, feeding, physical management).
- Provides review and practice of skills taught by a teacher with students 1:1 and in small groups in special education classroom and/or regular classroom.
- Works with students in schools and on community outings.
- Prepares instructional materials as directed/selected by teacher.
- Reinforces instructional/behavioral objectives.
- Provides clerical assistance to maintaining student records (charting, assignments, attendance, data for progress notes).
- Assists with the supervision of students during recess, lunchroom, and on the playground.
- Maintains the confidentiality of students and their families.
- Reinforces instructional and behavioral objectives for children.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Pay
- Starting at $18.42 per hour
- Pay Day: Last working day of each month, based on the payroll cutoff schedule.
Schedule
- Monday through Friday, 11:00 am to 1:00 pm with a 30 minute unpaid lunch
- 0.25 FTE, 10 hours per week, 9 months
