Salary: Follows the Collective Bargaining Agreement Salary Schedule, starting at Master's, Step 1 - $61,577 for the 2026/2027 school year.

Schedule: Part-time, three days per week.

Job Goal

To provide developmentally appropriate personal-social, academic, and career counseling to nonpublic elementary and secondary school students and consultation with various stakeholders in the nonpublic school setting.

Responsibilities

  • Promote communication among students, parents, teachers, administrators, and other educational specialists when appropriate.
  • Assist nonpublic school staff and students in establishing a positive educational environment.
  • Establish a referral system within the school to provide individual and/or small group counseling services.
  • Review student records and conduct classroom observations as needed.
  • Help students understand the role of the school counselor in the school setting.
  • Provide developmental/preventive counseling when needed.
  • Assist nonpublic school staff in assessing needs of immediate and severe student concerns.
  • Participate on the school's Student Support Team and/or Student Assistance Team.
  • Interpret test results for students, parents, faculty, and administrators within the limits of confidentiality.
  • Assist in the adaptation of academic instruction to meet individual student needs as necessary.
  • Confer with parents in implementing and coordinating strategies designed to meet individual student needs.
  • Become familiar with school policy regarding academic standards and provide suggestions to parents and students to improve academic performance.
  • Become knowledgeable of requirements for recommending educational screening and assessment.
  • Assist students in planning career and college goals if appropriate.
  • Provide information to students and parents regarding cooperative and vocational educational programs if appropriate.
  • Make referrals to appropriate agencies and/or private practitioners when appropriate.
  • Serve as a liaison between outside services and the school as needed.
  • Attend Act 89 staff and program meetings as scheduled by the supervisor, except when excused.
  • Utilize current technology for instruction and record management.
  • Maintain office to provide an appropriate student learning environment.
  • Maintain positive relationships with school personnel and CAIU colleagues to enhance the Act 89 program.
  • Participate in any CAIU or cross-functional teams as needed.
  • Assume any other responsibilities as assigned by the program supervisor or their designee.
  • Assume any other responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director or their designee.
