About the role

The Prince George’s County Police Department is seeking a Limited Term Grant Funded (LTGF) Paralegal (Paralegal 3G), grade G17 position in the Narcotics Enforcement Division, Legal Support Unit. This position supports the Maryland Criminal Intelligence Network (MCIN) - Overdose and Drug Awareness Coordinator (ODAC) Grant.

Responsibilities

  • Review arrest warrants with charges meeting the criteria for support of prosecution under the MCIN-ODAC grant.
  • Cook up felony screening appointments with charging detectives.
  • Cascade cases to identify if there are any fatal flaws.
  • Generate and submit all pleadings.
  • Train fellow paralegals on how to properly screen, process, and prepare applicable cases.
  • Aid detectives.
  • Liaison between the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Investigators and the State’s Attorney’s Office.
  • Cook up firearms and drug-related cases to Assistant State’s Attorneys for review and preparation of search warrant applications.
  • Provide discovery to the defense.
  • Prepare MCIN criminal cases to proceed to trial.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications: Associate of Arts degree in Paralegal studies, One (1) year of experience in an area related to the judicial/criminal justice system.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Extensive experience in law enforcement investigations, with a focus on violent crime, Understanding legal procedures, Knowledge of compliance laws and regulations, Strong verbal communication skills, Strong legal writing and drafting skills, Teamwork and collaboration skills, Time management skills, Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
