About the role

The Medical College of Wisconsin’s Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join their team in Milwaukee, WI. The APP will join a multidisciplinary team of providers dedicated to maximizing the rehabilitation of patients with General Rehab needs, Stroke, Brain Injury (BI), Spinal Cord Injury (SCI), multi-trauma, etc. in both the inpatient consult service and outpatient setting.

Responsibilities

  • Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and psychosocial status.
  • Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
  • Maintains and monitors effectiveness of plan of care.
  • Performs procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.
  • Collaborates and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
  • Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.

Qualifications

  • Preferred Experience: Previous experience in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, brain injury, neurology, neurosurgery, trauma or acute care preferred.
  • Minimum Education: Advanced Practice Nurse: Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing from a nationally accredited organization. Physician Assistant: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies from an ARC-PA-accredited organization.
  • Minimum Requirements: Advanced Practice Nurse/ Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner: Wisconsin RN License, Wisconsin Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber License. Certification Requirements: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), DEA registration, Nurse Practitioner Certification from a nationally accredited professional nursing organization (Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP (AGACNP), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care NP (AGPCNP), Family NP (FNP)). Physician Assistant: Wisconsin Physician Assistant License, Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
