LPN Wound Nurse

About the Role

The Treatment Nurse ensures effective and efficient care is provided as prescribed by the physician and in accordance with facility policies and procedures. This role reports directly to the Director of Nursing and adheres to current federal, state, local, and corporate standards to maintain the highest degree of quality care for residents.

Responsibilities

• Communicate regularly with residents and their families about Plans of Care, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and other treatment protocols.
• Maintain excellent communication skills and strong customer service for residents.
• Uphold an acceptable standard of nursing practice and professional decorum.
• Chart nurses' notes in an informative and descriptive manner reflecting care provided and resident responses.
• Provide resident care, including carrying out physician's orders for medication and treatment.
• Perform treatments while protecting the dignity and self-respect of the resident.
• Accurately observe and assess wounds and pressure sores, promptly notifying physicians of lack of progress, deterioration, or signs of infection.
• Ensure appropriate wound care management services are included in the plan to promote healing, such as special mattresses and nutritional supplements.
• Assist in preparing and updating care plans for treatment-related issues.
• Assist physicians and other healthcare providers during visits and examinations.
• Communicate with physicians and other health professionals regarding resident care, treatment, and condition.
• Notify family and attending physicians of significant treatment-related issues, including adverse changes in skin condition, untoward responses to treatment, treatment errors, or delays in obtaining prescribed care.
• Participate in the orientation and ongoing training of nursing staff.
• Report significant findings, changes in condition, and potential concerns to the RN Supervisor and/or Director of Nursing.
• Provide patient, caring, and compassionate service to residents who may be upset or in need of reassurance.
• Participate in facility surveys and inspections conducted by authorized government agencies as requested.
• Assist with the overall supervision of the nursing staff.

Requirements

• Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university.
• Two or more years of experience, preferably in a long-term care facility.
• Ability to read technical procedures, policy, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.
• Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
• Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Qualifications

• Current, unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Vocational/Practical Nurse.
• Current CPR certification.
• Knowledge and experience with PCC preferred.
• Must maintain all required continuing education for licensing.
• Must remain in good standing with the State Board of Nursing at all times.
