General Summary
The Licensed Practical Nurse provides direct and indirect nursing care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. They must demonstrate knowledge of patient growth and development across various age groups and adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
Education
Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse Program required. A pharmacology course of at least forty-five hours is recommended.
Experience
Minimum of two (2) years med-surg or rehabilitation experience required.
Supervision
No supervision exercised.
Special Employment Requirements
- Current licensure as a Practical Nurse in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania required.
- CPR certification must be obtained and maintained.
- Clearances required: PA State Police criminal history check, PA Department of Public Welfare Child Abuse Central Register (Childline), PA Department of Human Services FBI fingerprint clearance, and PA Department of Aging FBI fingerprint clearance (if applicable).
Physical Demands
- Medium work: duties requiring occasional exertion of 25-50 lbs. and frequent exertion of 10-25 lbs. throughout the shift.
- Position involves bending, reaching, stooping, and lifting (occasionally in strained positions).
- Requires ability to transport self throughout the facility.
Accident or Health Hazards
- Exposure to blood and body substances.
- Exposure to needle sticks possible.
Working Conditions
Works in a well-lit nursing unit, including: nurse’s station, patient rooms, treatment areas, etc.
