GENERAL SUMMARY
The Licensed Practical Nurse administers direct nursing care to patients and performs a variety of indirect patient care duties under the supervision of the RN Supervisor of the Transitional Care Unit. The Licensed Practical Nurse must be knowledgeable about patient care across different age groups and must adhere to professional policies and procedures.
EDUCATION
Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse Program required. A pharmacology course of at least forty-five hours must be included in the basic education curriculum or attended post graduation.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Minimum 2 years experience in a long term care setting preferred.
SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
- Possession of a current license as a Practical Nurse issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nurse Examiners required.
- Maintain the standards of nursing care and implement the policies and procedures of the Nursing Department and Allied Services.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide individualized care appropriate to the age-specific needs and cultural background of the patient served.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Medium Work: duties require exerting 25 to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 lbs. of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible amount up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, and move objects.
- Position involves bending, reaching, stooping and lifting (occasionally in strained position) throughout the shift.
- Ability to transport self throughout the facility is required.
ACCIDENT OR HEALTH HAZARDS
- Occasional exposure to blood and body substances.
- Exposure to needle sticks possible.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Works in a well-lit nursing unit, which includes: nurses station, patient's rooms, treatment areas, etc.
