Pay
Hiring Range: $23.90 – $31.10 per hour. Actual pay is determined based on job‑related factors such as relevant experience, education, credentials, skills, internal equity, and business needs.
About the role
Works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse in care of the patients and their environment (including those needing special precautions) and performs specified treatments. This position must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served in the assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and provide care as described according to departmental policy and procedure. Promotes and maintains a safe work environment for staff and customers, incorporating national patient safety initiatives. The LPN may work in a variety of settings and roles within Riverside Health System. Works under the direction of leadership and a multidisciplinary team to provide a comprehensive range of services or clinical care in accordance with standards of excellence established by Riverside Health System and facility goals and strategic plans.
Responsibilities
- Under the supervision of the RN, partner with patients and families to implement plan of care, treatments, and procedures that contribute to physiological and psychosocial outcomes.
- Incorporate evidence‑based standards of practice and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team in care coordination.
- Facilitate safe patient transitions to the next care setting as part of the plan of care.
- Demonstrate a sense of urgency to facilitate patient throughput, ensuring consistent, competent, and ethical care.
- Focus on quality outcomes, applying current evidence‑based practice and quality measures.
- Perform effective nursing skills (vitals, blood sugars, administering treatments and medications) accurately and efficiently, following protocols and physician orders.
- Adapt educational approaches to diverse patient populations to ensure patient/family comprehension; evaluate comprehension and document response.
- Build trusting collaborative relationships with peers and the multidisciplinary team to support patient care needs.
- Accurately complete all required clinical and quality documentation per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.
- Prioritize tasks appropriately to facilitate quality patient care and meet patient needs.
- Recognize and respond to emergency situations.
- Assess own need for support and utilize identified systems/resources to obtain assistance.
Qualifications
- Education: Practical Nursing program graduate (required) or equivalent military experience and education in lieu of program graduate (required); High School Diploma or GED (required).
- Experience: 1 year acute care experience (preferred).
- Licenses and Certifications: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) upon hire (required); CPR/BLS Certification – American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) upon hire (required).
