LPN Manager

About the Role

Assist the Director of Nursing Services in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the day-to-day functions of the nursing service department in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines governing long-term care facilities.

Responsibilities

• Participate in developing, maintaining, and updating written policies and procedures for the nursing service department.
• Facilitate resolution of issues and concerns related to resident/patient care, including family matters.
• Ensure reference materials (e.g., PDRs, regulations, professional standards) at nurses’ stations are current and recommend additional resources to support daily nursing needs.
• Maintain an up-to-date Nursing Service Procedures Manual reflecting daily nursing care procedures.
• Participate in the facility’s quality assurance program for the nursing service department.
• Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, and charting.
• Make nursing diagnoses to guide the delivery of care and conduct daily nursing assessments to develop and implement care plans.
• Conduct daily rounds to ensure nursing staff perform duties according to standards and report findings to the Director.
• Monitor timely physician visits and review nurses’ notes for accuracy and resident response to care.
• Authorize restraint use in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Provide health education to patients and families.
• Assist the In-Service Director/Educator in developing annual facility training programs (e.g., OSHA, TB, HIPAA, Abuse Prevention, Safety, Infection Control).
• Participate in developing preliminary and comprehensive nursing assessments and care plans for residents.
• Assist the Resident Assessment/Care Plan Coordinator in planning, scheduling, and revising the MDS, including RAPs and Triggers.
• Develop and encourage resident and family participation in care plan reviews.
• Ensure all personnel are aware of and follow the resident’s care plan.
• Foster teamwork among care services to develop comprehensive care plans.
• Participate in quality assurance activities and adhere to scope-of-practice limitations.
• Complete required forms and documents per company policy and regulations.
• Perform general nursing duties during emergencies or staffing shortages.
• Assist in preparing and planning the nursing service department’s budget for review by the Director.
• Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information, including protected health information.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an Accredited School of Nursing; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
• Must be in good standing with the State Board of Nursing and maintain all required continuing education/licensing.
• 1–3 years of supervisory experience preferred.

• Strong problem-solving skills to address practical issues with limited standardization.
• Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite products; experience with PCC preferred.

Physical Demands

• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• Prolonged use of desktop or laptop computers.
• Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, read, or hear.
• Frequent use of office equipment (copier, scanner, fax, telephone, calculator).
• Travel by auto or airline may be required.
