LPN/MA - Breast Oncology

About the role
We are looking for an experienced LPN or MA to support our outpatient practice within our Breast Oncology team at our West Cancer Center in Tigard, OR. This individual will work alongside our gynecology oncology team, which includes providers, an RN, Medical Assistants, and schedulers, to collectively guide patients through their cancer care journey.
Employment Type: Full-Time, 40 Hours M-F
Salary Range:
LPN: $26.41-$44.59 per hour
Medical Assistant: $21.09-$35.65 per hour
Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience, expertise, and internal employee equity considerations.
Responsibilities
- Provides general nursing care to patients, including:
- Screening patients for appropriate information.
- Administering treatments such as wound care, bladder scans, void trials, etc., in accordance with nursing standards.
- Assisting with the preparation of equipment and aiding physicians during examinations and procedures.
- Observing, recording, and reporting patient’s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to providers.
- Ordering/prescribing medications as directed by provider.
- Providing patient education, including pre/post-operative education on procedures, medications, and recovery expectations.
- Responding to and referring incoming telephone calls.
- Instructing patients and families regarding medications and treatment instructions.
- Recognizing when escalation to an RN is required to maintain compliance with the nurse practice act and state regulations.
- Recording patient data prior to each physician visit, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and current medication reconciliation.
- Performing EKG and oximetry readings as requested by the provider.
- Sending referrals, placing orders, and requesting medical records as outlined by the provider.
- Initiating IV fluids and IV therapeutic medications in accordance with LPN/LVN state nurse practice act.
- Escorts patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment rooms as appropriate.
- Obtains all necessary patient records as required by the physician prior to treatment or procedures.
- Prepares and stocks exam/treatment rooms and orders supplies as needed.
- Assists physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
- Administers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, including hormones and biological growth factors.
- Maintains all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
- Processes instruments and equipment as needed.
- Answers patient telephone calls for referral to physician, nurse, or pharmacist.
- Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as required or directed by physicians.
- Schedules patient tests, procedures, hospital admissions, and follow-up appointments on test results.
- Obtains new patient records and previous test results, x-rays, scans, etc.
- Demonstrates reliability and punctuality by consistently showing up on time and maintaining dependable attendance.
- Performs other administrative duties such as typing, filing, faxing, and reception as requested by supervisor or physician.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
LPN:
- Education: High school graduate or equivalent. Graduate from an accredited school for practical nursing.
- Experience/Training: At least 3 years’ experience as a practical nurse. Phlebotomy experience preferred.
- Current LPN state license and registration with the State Board of Practical Nursing in practicing state.
- Current American Heart Association accredited BLS certification required within 3 months of hire.
Medical Assistant:
- Education: High school graduate or equivalent. Certificate of graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants preferred.
- Current CPR certification required.
- Experience/Training: Minimum (1-3) years of experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant, preferred. Phlebotomy experience preferred.

Physical demands
- Work may require sitting for long periods, as well as stooping, bending, and stretching for files and supplies.
- Occasionally lifting files or paper weighing up to 30 pounds.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, calculator, telephone, copier, and other office equipment.
- Vision correctable to 20/20 and hearing within normal range for telephone contacts.
- Ability to view and type on computer screens for prolonged periods.
