LPN IV Certified - Medical/Surgical

Works under the supervision of leadership and the direction of the RN and/or Provider to administer quality patient care according to established standards. May be required to work in other areas based on staff skills and patient acuity. Provides exceptional service to all patients and customers.

Responsibilities

• Completes daily reassessments for assigned patients and documents findings.
• Updates and implements the plan of care.
• Reinforces patient teaching and family education.
• Administers medications and monitors patients’ responses, including intravenous fluids and medications.
• Collaborates effectively with all members of the interdisciplinary team.
• Contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues, and others (students, orientees).
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Degree from an accredited school of practical nursing, or military equivalent.
• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – State Licensure or Compact State Licensure in designated work location (required upon hire).
• IV Certification (required upon hire).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required within 90 days).
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (Albany-specific, required within 90 days).
• Must be able to travel between various system facilities and off-site locations as needed.

Skills and Abilities

• Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Fine motor skills, eye/hand coordination, ability to answer phone, type, give injections, administer medications, and change dressings.
• Interpersonal Skills: Displays a friendly, positive attitude and communicates professionally with patients, families, physicians, and co-workers.
• Essential Physical Requirements: Must walk, move, kneel, crouch, stoop, reach, stand, pull, push, lift, and speak clearly.
• Essential Mental Abilities: Ability to collect thorough patient information, evaluate care effects, problem-solve, manipulate numbers, interpret data, calculate, comprehend, explain, assess, evaluate, and demonstrate both short-term and long-term memory.
• Essential Sensory Requirements: Ability to visually assess patient condition, communicate with patients, and evaluate care effects. Requires visual, hearing, tactile, and olfactory senses.

Exposure to Hazards

• Body fluids, blood, punctures, scratches, and physical injury from combative patients.
• Radiation exposure, needle sticks, cuts, back injury, and infection/disease exposure from patients, visitors, and co-workers.
