JOB SUMMARY

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Orthopedic Clinic provides patient care and clinical support to orthopedic physicians and healthcare providers. This role focuses on assisting with patient evaluations, treatments, procedures, and patient education to ensure high quality, efficient care in an outpatient orthopedic setting.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education:

    • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

    • A graduate of an accredited LPN program. Active LPN license in the State of Louisiana is required.

    • Certification: CPR Certification for Health Care Providers is required.

  • Work Experience:

    • Experience working within a surgical practice environment including but not limited to Orthopedic and General Surgery, preferred.

  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Excellent communication skills (oral and written).

    • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EHR).

    • Basic computer knowledge.

    • Interpersonal skills and compassion.

    • Analyzing information, critical thinking, and problem solving.

    • Attention to detail.

    • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

    • Ability to work well under pressure and use good judgement in assessing difficult situations.

    • Current knowledge and experience using medical terminology.

    • Self-motivated and can work independently, as well as part of a team.

  • Physical Requirements:

    • Remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.

    • Move about the office and facility to access various departments and patient care areas.

    • Position self-such as sit, bend, reach, push, pull, and stoop to maintain equipment and provide patient care.

    • Frequently operate a computer, office, and patient care machinery.

    • Manual dexterity to perform clinical procedures such as phlebotomy, dressing changes, splitting, casting, and equipment handling.

    • Visual and auditory ability to observe patients, read medical records and medication labels, and communicate effectively with patients and staff.

    • Ability to communicate information accurately so others will understand.

    • Ability to observe details at close range.

    • Capable of moving, lifting, pushing, and/or pulling up to 50 pounds to assist with patient mobility and transfers, with or without assistance.

    • Frequently move boxes, equipment, assist patients, etc. weighing up to 20 pounds across the office for various needs.

  • OSHA EXPOSURE CATEGORY A: Has exposure to blood borne pathogens.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assist orthopedic physicians and providers during patient examinations and procedures.

  • Prepare patients for visits, including obtaining medical histories, vital signs, and chief complaints.

  • Apply and remove casts, splints, braces, and dressings as directed.

  • Auxiliary with injections and minor orthopedic procedures.

  • Perform wound care and post-operative follow-up care.

  • Educate patients on treatment plans, post-procedure care, medications, and mobility restrictions.

  • Answer patient messages, return phone calls, and respond to clinical inquiries in a timely and professional manner.

  • Follow up with patients regarding test results, imaging findings, and provider instructions.

  • Schedule patient appointments, procedures, and follow-up visits.

  • Administer medications and injections in accordance with clinic policy and scope of practice.

  • Prepare and maintain examination rooms, ensuring proper sterilization and equipment readiness.

  • Congnorate imaging, referrals, and follow-up appointments.

  • Order, stock, and replenish medical and office supplies, monitor inventory levels.

  • Document patient care accurately and timely in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.

  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary healthcare team members.

  • Ensure compliance with infection control, safety standards, and clinic policies.

  • Maintain patient confidentiality and always ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations.

  • All other duties assigned by immediate supervisor.
