LPN for Opiate Treatment Program

About the role

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Opiate Treatment Program plays a pivotal role in patient care. This full-time position ensures the seamless operation of the facility and the well-being of patients.

Schedule

• Monday - Friday: 5:30 AM - 1:00 PM
• Saturday: 5:30 AM - 11:30 AM

All employees are expected to meet their regular work schedule, which may include rotation of shifts, weekends, and holidays. Excessive absenteeism and/or tardiness will not be tolerated. Employees must work within the agency’s point system (refer to Policy 803 – Attendance Policy).

Responsibilities

• Open clinic when needed and perform usual early morning duties.
• Record Methadone discrepancies and correct them in the computer system.
• Review files of all discharged patients to ensure compliance with established protocols, medical policies, and procedures; verify files are appropriately documented and in correct order.
• Work closely with the physician and properly triage patients to ensure quality patient care.
• Record refrigerator temperature in the log ledger.
• Check inventories and first aid kit on a monthly basis.
• Monitor patient urine/drug screens and process all related paperwork.
• Dispense Methadone as prescribed.
• Carry out any other tasks assigned by the Medical Services Supervisor or other duties as assigned.

• Knowledge and ability to administer Methadone in accordance with physicians’ orders.
• Knowledge of community resources, hospitals, community mental health services, and other appropriate referrals.
• Knowledge of drugs of abuse and their effects on the human body, especially during withdrawal.
• Ability to determine if a patient has consumed alcohol and other drugs prior to receiving Methadone dosage.
• Ability to obtain and maintain licensure and provide documentation for personnel records.

Requirements

• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in good standing with certification allowing the administration of medication.
• Knowledge and understanding of addiction, detoxification, and the recovery process.
• Valid driver’s license and insurance.
• Ability to function positively and effectively with patients, the Medical Director, and other staff members.
• Knowledge and adherence to CARF standards.
• CPR and First Aid trained; Crisis Prevention (CPI) trained.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to write clear, concise, and accurate notes, and comply with laws and standards of confidentiality.
• Ability to maintain the confidentiality of assigned duties.
• Ability to function effectively in a changing environment.
• Medical knowledge and experience to accomplish all assigned nursing responsibilities.
• Skills and abilities required to comfortably and effectively work with patients and be responsive to their mental and physical needs.
• Ability to maintain licensure and credentials.
