HOURS

40 hours per week, 4 days per week; 3 days 7:00am-5:30pm and 1 day 9:30am-8:00pm; 1 Saturday per month 7:30am-12:00pm

SUMMARY

To provide nursing services to patients at a provider’s office. Patient care includes infants to 12 years, adolescents 13 to 17 years, adults 18 to 64 years, and geriatrics over 64 years. Qualified individuals must demonstrate the ability to perform the following duties:

• Provide clinical advice via phone or email based on clinical judgments and/or triage protocols, adhering to regulatory requirements and standards of practice.
• Consult with the provider as needed.
• Provide patient-specific education, including preventive care, chronic disease management, acute diagnosis, medications, and other areas relevant to patient outcomes.
• Prepare patients for visits using appropriate rooming standards tools.
• Gather information from patients and direct to RN or provider as necessary.
• Administer injections and medications as prescribed by the provider and in accordance with department protocol, regulatory requirements, and standards of practice.
• Prepare and assist providers with various procedures, minor surgeries, and other exams as designated by the provider.
• Perform Point of Care Testing, including but not limited to hearing, flu, urine, and strep tests.
• Collect blood or other laboratory specimens and prepare them for further testing.
• Authorize prescription refills as instructed by the provider.
• Track and monitor overdue results.
• Remove sutures and change dressings on wounds as necessary.
• Absorb exam rooms after each patient visit, maintaining and cleaning medical instruments and equipment after each procedure.
• Aid in care coordination activities among specialists and transitions of care to obtain all necessary patient information.
• Coordinate referrals, education, and community resources.
• Participate in performance improvement initiatives to enhance patient experience and quality of care.
• Participate in daily huddles with the provider.
• Act as a patient experience advocate by being a positive influence during interactions with patients, visitors, and colleagues.
• Communicate with all patients, visitors, and colleagues in a professional manner, prioritizing customer service.
• Handle patient information confidentially according to Lancaster General Health privacy and confidentiality policies and procedures.

Minimum Required Qualifications

• Completion of a LPN educational program
• Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), issued by the PA State Board of Nursing
• American Heart Association (AHA) CPR certification
• One to two years of nursing experience in a primary or specialty care physician’s office
• Prior triage, emergency room, cardiac care, intensive care, or other related specialty nursing experience
