Essential Job Functions
- Perform general nursing duties.
- Assess patients’ general condition and take vital signs and history.
- Absorb and document all activities, interventions and medications in the patient record.
- Obtain pre-certifications, pre-authorizations and referrals from insurance companies.
- Promote wellness by providing patient education materials, communicating physician advice and instructions.
- Handle critical lab values and promptly seek physician orders.
- Schedule outside referrals.
- Assist with medical procedures.
- Answer telephone, schedule patients for office visits and/or hospital tests, send prescriptions to pharmacy, and call patients with test results.
- Assist physicians in the treatment and care of patients in the office.
- Maintain exam rooms and other patient areas for the physician to examine the patients.
- Ensure safety, infection control, and other policies and procedures are followed in the office.
- Perform routine office laboratory procedures.
- Maintain equipment and supplies needed for patient care.
- Answer phones, triage telephone patient care issues directly to clinic provider, and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
- Adhere to corporate policies, JCAHO, Rural Health, Departmental Policies and Procedures, and Personnel Employee Handbook.
- Demonstrate professionalism and accountability.
- Promote a positive image of the physician practice to patients and the public.
- Ensure high standards for quality and productivity; focus on results.
- Follow standards of conduct and procedures of hospital and applicable laws and regulations and report violations through the appropriate chain of command.
- Treat patients, physicians, and coworkers with courtesy and respect.
- Identify customer expectations and work to meet and exceed them.
- Maintain a high degree of ethics, integrity, and confidentiality.
- Assume other duties as necessary to support the efforts of the hospital, including filling in for absent colleagues, covering other nursing personnel, and completing a full range of duties.
