About the role

The Ambulatory Licensed Practical Nurse is a member of the collaborative interdisciplinary team. The Ambulatory Licensed Practical Nurse utilizes the care process consistent with their license and within their scope of practice. The practice of nursing as an Ambulatory Licensed Practical Nurse includes performing tasks and responsibilities such as case finding; reinforcing patient and family teaching through health teaching, health counseling, and provision of supportive and restorative care, under the direction of a Registered Nurse or licensed Physician. The Registered Nurse oversees coordination of the interdisciplinary plan of care and ensures its consistency with the medical treatment plan.

Licensed care providers document both objective and subjective physical findings and interventions according to standards, organizational policy, and procedural guidelines. The Licensed Practical Nurse actively supports performance improvement initiatives by participating in educational activities and assumes responsibility for continued professional and personal growth.

Responsibilities

• Perform tasks within the framework of case finding, health teaching, health counseling, and provision of supportive and restorative care.
• Reinforce patient and family teaching programs.
• Document objective and subjective physical findings and interventions.
• Participate in performance improvement and educational activities.
• Demonstrate department-specific competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

Requirements

Education

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

License/Certification

• Current licensure as an LPN in the State of New Jersey.
• Current BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLSHCP).

Specialty Experience

• Family Medicine/Urgent Care: 3-5 years clinical experience including pediatric experience required; strong organizational skills preferred.
• Internal Medicine: 3-5 years clinical experience in medical/surgical required; strong organizational skills preferred.
• Pediatric Pulmonary: 3-5 years pediatric nursing experience required; strong organizational skills preferred.
• Trauma Outpatient: 3-5 years medical/surgical experience required; strong organizational skills preferred.
• Clinic Services: 3-5 years clinical experience in medical/surgical required; strong organizational skills preferred.
• Infectious Disease: 3-5 years clinical experience in medical/surgical required; strong organizational skills preferred.
• Mission Services: 3-5 years clinical experience in medical/surgical required; strong organizational skills preferred.

Work Environment

• Potential exposure to hazards and risks of the hospital environment, including infectious disease, blood-borne pathogens, hazardous substances, and potential injury.
• Considerable reaching, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
• Extensive standing and walking.
• Frequent lifting of approximately 25 to 50 pounds.
• Occasional lifting of approximately 50 to 100 pounds with assistance.
• Pushing and pulling of heavy equipment.
• Some departments require the ability to distinguish colors.
