LPN - Atrium Health Levine Children's Rutherford Pediatrics FT

Full-time position, benefits eligible, 40 hours per week.

Schedule

• Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• Sign-on bonus eligible based on qualifications

Pay

Pay range: $24.10 – $36.15 per hour.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and rooms the patient for exam by obtaining vital signs and documenting/updating pertinent health information (chief complaint, allergies, medications).
• Performs laboratory procedures (strep test, wound culture, specimen collection) using aseptic technique and standard precautions/infection control guidelines.
• Assists the physician/provider with procedures and surgeries (pelvic exams, allergy scratch testing, EMG, cautery, colposcopy, etc.).
• Administers medications under physician/provider orders, including immunizations, antibiotics, pain medications, vitamins, topical agents, and insulin. Initiates, maintains, and discontinues IV therapy with selected fluids and pre-mixed medications.
• Provides basic patient education on tasks, skills, treatment, and self-care. Follows through with procedure/test requests, prescription refills, new appointments, and referrals. Relays information to and from physicians and registered nurses per scope of practice.
• Communicates with physicians and healthcare team members, documenting accurate and timely patient condition information.
• Performs advanced clinical tasks (suture/staple removal, catheterization, audiograms, laboratory procedures, EKG, spirometry, Holter monitor application, casting, complex wound care) with demonstrated competency and clinical supervision.
• Organizes and prepares exam rooms, labs, and work areas: cleaning, stocking, ordering supplies, and maintaining equipment. Performs patient positioning and transporting duties requiring lifting and proper technique.
• Completes routine maintenance and quality monitoring of clinic equipment, including cleaning, sterilizing, and caring for instruments.
• Participates in patient-centered initiatives, care management, and performance/quality improvement activities.
• Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care, assessing data reflective of patient status and interpreting needs based on growth and development principles.

Requirements

• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license issued by the state of practice.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) to be obtained within 45 days unless exempted by department leader.
• Completion of an accredited or approved Practical Nursing program.

Skills

• Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills; ability to develop rapport and maintain professional relationships with patients, staff, and physicians.
• Strong organization, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient computer skills, including keyboarding, navigation within a Windows operating system, and use of electronic mail and medical records systems.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Must sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders throughout the workday.
• Must be able to:
  • Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist.
  • Lift up to 20 lbs overhead.
  • Carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance.
  • Push/pull with 30 lbs of force.
  • Perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with assistance.
• Exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical hazards, and blood/body fluids; required to wear protective clothing and equipment as needed.
• Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch, with ability to use fine-hand manipulation skills.
• Operates all essential job-related equipment.
