LPN - Ambulatory

About the Role

The Ambulatory Licensed Practical Nurse is a member of the collaborative interdisciplinary team. The Ambulatory Licensed Practical Nurse utilizes the care process consistent with their license and within their scope of practice. The practice of nursing includes performing tasks and responsibilities such as case finding, reinforcing patient and family teaching through health education, counseling, and providing supportive and restorative care under the direction of a Registered Nurse or licensed Physician. The Registered Nurse oversees coordination of the interdisciplinary plan of care and ensures consistency with the medical treatment plan.

Licensed care providers document both objective and subjective physical findings and interventions. All patient care activities adhere to standards, organizational policies, and procedural guidelines. The Licensed Practical Nurse supports performance improvement initiatives by participating in educational activities and assumes responsibility for continued professional and personal growth.

Responsibilities

• Perform tasks within the framework of case finding, health teaching, and health counseling.
• Provide supportive and restorative care under the direction of a Registered Nurse or licensed Physician.
• Document objective and subjective physical findings and interventions.
• Adhere to standards, organizational policies, and procedural guidelines in patient care.
• Participate in performance improvement and educational activities.
• Assume responsibility for professional and personal growth.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current licensure as an LPN in the State of New Jersey.
• Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLSHCP) certification.

Specialty Experience

• Family Medicine/Urgent Care: 3-5 years clinical experience including pediatric experience required; strong organizational skills preferred.
• Cardiology: 1-2 years of clinical experience preferred.
• Internal Medicine: 3-5 years clinical experience in medical/surgical required; strong organizational skills preferred.
• Pediatric Pulmonary: 3-5 years pediatric nursing experience required; strong organizational skills preferred.
• Trauma Outpatient: 3-5 years medical/surgical experience required; strong organizational skills preferred.
• Clinic Services: 3-5 years clinical experience in medical/surgical required; strong organizational skills preferred.
• Infectious Disease: 3-5 years clinical experience in medical/surgical required; strong organizational skills preferred.
• Mission Services: 3-5 years clinical experience in medical/surgical required; strong organizational skills preferred.

Work Environment

• Potential exposure to hazards and risks of the hospital environment, including infectious disease, blood-borne pathogens, and hazardous substances.
• Considerable reaching, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
• Extensive standing and walking.
• Frequent lifting of approximately 25 to 50 pounds; occasional lifting of 50 to 100 pounds with assistance.
• Pushing and pulling of heavy equipment.
• Some departments require the ability to distinguish colors.
• Periodic travel to other department locations expected.
