About the role

A full-time Building Substitute responsible for maintaining consistent education in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 5 classrooms when regular teachers are unavailable.

Responsibilities

  • Perform teaching duties across Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 5, covering core subjects (Mathematics, ELA, Social Studies) and co-curricular specials (Music, Art, Science, World Languages, etc.)
  • Provide whole-class, small-group, and individual instruction
  • Foster a positive, nurturing learning environment
  • Collaborate with the Head and Assistant Head of Lower School and the Lower School Administrative Assistant for daily classroom placement and tasks
  • Perform arrival and dismissal duties
  • Supervise and assist students during transitions, meal times, and recess
  • Maintain clean and organized classroom spaces
  • Support the School and teachers on non-assigned days
  • Attend faculty/staff meetings, professional development sessions, and community events
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head of Lower School or Head of School

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or related field
  • 1–3 years of classroom teaching experience, preferably in an elementary setting
  • Excellent time management and ability to switch between tasks and prioritize work
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and planning skills
  • Outstanding verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience integrating technology (Google applications, MacBooks/iPads, Promethean Board)
  • Commitment to creating inclusive classroom communities and introducing students to diverse cultures, experiences, and perspectives
