About the role
The Technician 3 plays a crucial role in the installation, maintenance, and repair of low voltage systems. They work closely with a team of 4-6 members and are supervised by a Tech Superintendent. The primary responsibility is to ensure quality workmanship in compliance with contractual documents and applicable codes.
Responsibilities
- Lead teams of 4-6 team members and perform hands-on work on low voltage systems
- Install, repair, terminate, certify, and troubleshoot devices and cabling
- Assist site Superintendents in various ways, assuming their responsibilities as needed
- Train and supervise other technicians
- Install, repair, and terminate cabling for infrastructure, access control/security, cameras (CCTV), and paging systems
- Assist with service calls involving troubleshooting and fault identification
- Manage inventory and maintain materials for assigned sites
- Plan and communicate task schedules and goals to team members
- Build out MDF, IDF, enclosures, ladder tray, baskets, and install 2-4 post racks
- Punch down, route, label, and dress cabling correctly and accurately
- Install equipment and UPS systems into racks
- Understand and identify differences between multi-mode and single-mode fiber
- Terminate data jacks and mod plugs
- Use and maintain test equipment, including operating remote end of testing equipment
- Keep detailed records of device and cabling locations
- Work independently to determine and install pathways
- Adhere to BICSI, ANSI, TIA standards and NEC codes for low voltage installations
- Terminate data jacks and mod plugs; properly feed cable, fiber, and/or wires
- Use and maintain test equipment, and interpret copper and fiber test results
- Learn and comprehend fluke testing software, COINS, Box, Microsoft Office and related software programs
- Maintain clear and detailed records as needed
- Understand firestopping, riser versus plenum spaces, and specs needed for each
- Read and understand project plans, communicate, and examine job costs
- Read blueprints, schematics, drawing details, wire maps, and other drawings
- Read and understand specifications of IDF and data closet enclosures
- Travel to meet customer objectives when needed
Requirements
- 4 years of verified experience with low voltage systems and cabling
- Demonstrated aptitude to plan project workflow with understanding of design and task efficiency
- Experience with Infrastructure (ITS), Access Control/Security, Cameras (CCTV), and Paging systems
- Experience installing devices for Infrastructure (ITS), Access Control/Security, Access Points (Wi-Fi), Cameras (CCTV), and Paging systems
- Experience troubleshooting Copper, Fiber, AV, Cameras, and Access Control/Security Systems
- Manufacturer certification in Unicam fiber terminations and Mini-Com terminations
- Experience with build out of MDF, IDF, enclosures, ladder tray, baskets, and installing 2-4 post racks
- Experience with punch down, routing, labeling, and dressing cabling coming into racks or enclosures
- Experience with installing UPS systems and equipment into racks or enclosures
- Understanding of differences between Multi-Mode and Single-Mode fiber
- Ability to terminate data jacks and mod plugs; and properly feed cable, fiber, and/or wires
- Experience using, operating, and maintaining test equipment, and interpreting copper and fiber test results
- Ability to learn and comprehend fluke testing software, COINS, Box, Microsoft Office and related software programs
- Ability to maintain clear and detailed records as needed
- Understanding of firestopping, riser versus plenum spaces, and specs needed for each
- Knowledge of BICSI, ANSI, TIA standards and NEC codes for Low Voltage installations
- Able to read a measuring tape to 1/16 of an inch
- Personal hand tools provided within 30 days of employment
- A basic understanding of customer relationships and the concept of customer satisfaction
- Able to use hand and power tools safely and cautiously
- Able to read blueprints, schematics, drawing details, wire maps, and other drawings
- Able to read and understand specifications of IDF and data closet enclosures
- Meet all physical requirements of the position
- Able to travel to meet customer objectives when needed
