About the role
The Technician 3 plays a crucial role in the installation, maintenance, and repair of low voltage systems. They work closely with a team of technicians and under the direction of a Tech Superintendent, performing hands-on tasks and assuming responsibilities as needed.
Responsibilities
- Lead teams of 4-6 team members and work hands-on to install, repair, terminate, certify, and troubleshoot devices and cabling of low voltage systems.
- Absorb and perform tasks independently, filling in for Superintendents as needed.
- Provide training and supervision to other technicians.
- Install, repair, terminate, certify, and label cabling for one or more of the following systems: Infrastructure (ITS), Access Control/Security, Cameras (CCTV), and Paging systems.
- Assist with service calls involving troubleshooting and fault identification for Copper (Analog systems), Audio/Visual (AV) Cameras (CCTV), and Access Control/Security systems.
- Manage inventory and maintain materials at assigned sites.
- Plan and communicate task schedules and goals to team members.
- Build out MDF, IDF, Enclosures, Ladder Tray, Basket, and install 2-4 post racks.
- Punch down, route, label, and dress all cabling correctly and accurately.
- Install equipment and UPS systems into Racks or Enclosures.
- Understand and identify differences between Multi-Mode and Single-Mode fiber.
- Terminate data jacks and mod plugs; properly feed cable, fiber, and wires.
- Operate and maintain test equipment, including interpreting copper and fiber test results.
- Keep detailed records of device and cabling locations.
- Work independently to determine and install pathways.
- Adhere to BICSI, ANSI, TIA standards and NEC codes for Low Voltage Installations.
- Terminate data jacks and mod plugs; and properly feed cable, fiber and/or wires.
- Maintain clear and detailed records as needed.
- Understand firestopping, riser versus plenum environments.
- Work with and around other construction trades in a professional, productive, and safe manner.
- Perform skilled work while overcoming common environmental challenges such as working in cramped areas, overhead, at heights, and in a variety of weather conditions.
- Work cooperatively with others and seek guidance for any unclear aspects of the task.
- Seek a new task when the current task is finished.
- Be accountable for tools and materials used on the jobsite and secure them in the designated area.
- Obtain required Amteck safety certifications and communicate with team members regarding any safety deficiencies.
- Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self and others.
Requirements
- 4 years of verified experience with low voltage systems and cabling.
- Demonstrated aptitude to plan project workflow with understanding of design and task efficiency.
- Experience with one or more of the following systems: Infrastructure (ITS), Access Control/Security, Cameras (CCTV), and Paging.
- Experience installing devices for one or more of the following systems: Infrastructure (ITS), Access Control/Security, Access Points (Wi-Fi), Cameras (CCTV), and Paging.
- Experience troubleshooting one or more of the following systems: Copper, Fiber, AV, Cameras, and Access Control/Security Systems.
- Manufacturer certification in Unicam fiber terminations and Mini-Com terminations.
- Experience with build out of MDF, IDF, Enclosures, Ladder Tray, Basket, and installing 2-4 post racks.
- Experience with punch down, routing, labeling, and dressing all cabling coming into Rack or Enclosure correctly and accurately.
- Experience with installing Uninterruptible Power Supply(UPS) systems and equipment into Rack or Enclosure.
- Understanding of differences in Multi-Mode and Single-Mode fiber.
- Ability to terminate data jacks and mod plugs; and properly feed cable, fiber and/or wires.
- Ability to use, operate, and maintain test equipment, and interpret copper and fiber test results.
- Ability to learn and comprehend fluke testing software, COINS, Box, Microsoft Office and related software programs.
- Knowledge of BICSI, ANSI, TIA standards and NEC codes for Low Voltage installations.
- Ability to read a measuring tape to 1/16 of an inch.
- Personal hand tools provided within 30 days of employment.
- A basic understanding of customer relationships and the concept of customer satisfaction.
- Able to use hand and power tools safely and cautiously.
- Able to read blueprints, schematics, drawing details, wire maps, and other drawings, including IDF and data closet enclosures.
- Physical requirements met for the position.
