Low-Voltage System Design Engineer

About the role

As a System Design Engineer at EnvelopiQ, you will design and develop advanced low-voltage systems—including fire alarm, audio-visual, and access controls—for commercial and industrial building projects. Our technology-driven approach helps customers leverage data to create impactful outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Design low-voltage systems such as fire alarm, telecommunications, nurse call, audio-visual, security/access control, intercom, and paging.
• Conduct discovery sessions, site surveys, and meetings to understand project requirements, objectives, and budget.
• Support pre-sales by identifying, scoping, and estimating cost-effective solutions that meet customer needs.
• Prepare detailed floor plans, diagrams, and technical specifications for project drawings.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, local codes, and safety regulations.
• Maintain accurate records of all design work and project documentation.
• Contribute to comprehensive bid packages with knowledge of low-voltage systems equipment and materials.
• Draft infrastructure and installation documentation.
• Deliver briefings, status reports, presentations, and project deliverables to customers and prospects.
• Provide technical expertise and guidance throughout the project lifecycle, addressing design challenges or issues.
• Prepare project closeout documentation, including drawings, product documentation, and device detail sheets.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
• 2+ years of experience designing low-voltage systems for commercial and industrial buildings.
• Proficiency with CAD software such as FireCAD, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Revit, or similar programs.
• In-depth knowledge of low-voltage products and technologies to evaluate requirements and assist with component selection.
• Strong deadline-oriented mindset with exceptional time management and organizational skills.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Proven ability with advanced computer functions, operating systems, and software (Windows, Word, Apple iOS, Android, Outlook).
• Legally authorized for employment in the United States without employer-based sponsorship now or in the future.

Physical Demands

• Work is primarily performed in an office environment with standard office equipment.
• Occasional visits to customer locations or jobsites may require standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing ladders or scaffolds, and working in ducts, crawl spaces, roofs, basements, or varied environmental conditions (heat, cold, day, night).
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Must maintain a professional appearance and satisfy requirements imposed by projects, customers, or the company.
• Ability to carry and move equipment and tools weighing up to 25 pounds unassisted.
