Low Voltage Cabling Design Engineer, Network Infrastructure Design & Deployment
About the role
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is expanding our Network Infrastructure Design & Deployment (NIDD) team within Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC). We are seeking a subject matter expert (SME) with experience in designing and planning copper and fiber network solutions, cabling pathways, and vision to advance AWS Data Centers. This role involves creating detailed pathway and cabling designs, driving process improvements, and adhering to industry and AWS-specific standards. The mission of the team is to deliver network capacity on time with zero rework. The successful candidate will manage the planning phase of cable pathways and passive network solutions, working from a corporate office and remote sites with up to 25% international and domestic travel. This position requires U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph.
Responsibilities
- Develop pathway, space, and cabling designs, along with specifications for construction and permitting.
- Engage with industry suppliers and manufacturers to define product requirements and explore emerging technologies.
- Ensure timely delivery of scalable fiber optic and copper plant designs and specifications.
- Review and approve ICT pathway, cabling, and equipment submittals.
- Identify and respond to risks and high-priority issues rapidly and effectively.
- Support new technology and design activities that improve infrastructure quality, reduce cost, and shorten installation time.
- Travel 20%+ to review projects and coordinate with onsite personnel and contractors at AWS Data Centers.
- Conduct quality assurance audits at project sites, collaborate with project managers and contractors, and implement corrective actions to resolve issues.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- Knowledge of critical data center equipment.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities.
- 5+ years' experience developing design documentation (plans, specifications, etc.) for construction and/or permitting.
- 5+ years' working experience with fiber optic components, cabling, and interconnect products, technologies, and standards.
- 5+ years' experience marking building design sets using Bluebeam Revu or similar software for construction and permitting purposes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience reading and interpreting construction specifications and drawings for all domains.
- BICSI RCDD Certification or internationally recognized equivalent (e.g., CDCDP, DCDC).
- Ability and willingness to think outside of the box to find creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs while maintaining or improving quality, reliability, or maintainability.

Pay
The base salary range for this position is:
- USA, MD (Jessup, Laurel, Severn): $111,300.00 - $186,100.00 USD annually.
- USA, VA (Alexandria, Culpeper, Herndon, Warrenton): $111,300.00 - $186,100.00 USD annually.
Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.

This role may require up to 25% international and domestic travel.
