Job Description
The primary responsibility of a Lowboy Driver is to safely & efficiently load, secure, and transport heavy earthmoving equipment, such as excavators, dozers, loaders, skid steers, and telehandlers both to and from jobsites using a specialized low-deck trailer. Typical duties include:
- Conducting pre and post-trip inspections of vehicle and equipment
- Coinciding deliveries & drop-offs with site personnel and support staff
- Planning safe & effective routes to ensure timely delivery of equipment
- Complying with all DOT regulations outlining weight limits, operator hours, etc.
- Maintaining up-to-date logbooks, service requests, invoices and other docs
- Understanding laws pertaining to the safe & efficient transport of heavy haulage
- Performing preventive maintenance and minor repairs of vehicle and equipment
- Generating and submitting service requests for major mechanical deficiencies
- Performing additional deliveries and/or shop duties during downtime
- Participating in post-project evals to identify “lessons learned” for the future
Requirements
- At least 1+ years’ experience operating a Low Boy trailer
- Valid CDL Class A Driver’s License w/ appropriate endorsements
- Valid & up-to-date DOT physical
- Understanding of industry-wide rigging and securement practices
- Strong familiarity with DOT regulations and transportation laws
- Excavation and/or construction industry experience is preferred
- OSHA 10 Certification (Thompson will train, if necessary)
- CPR & First Aid Certification (Thompson will train, if necessary)
