Job Summary

ConocoPhillips is seeking a commercially minded Louisiana Gas Originator to join our Gulf Coast Gas Trading and Marketing team in Houston, Texas. This role is responsible for originating and developing natural gas marketing opportunities across Louisiana and the broader Gulf Coast region, with a focus on industrial end-users, intrastate pipeline markets, and growing demand centers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and expand relationships with industrial natural gas customers across Louisiana and the Gulf Coast.
  • Identify and pursue new commercial opportunities with industrial, refining, manufacturing, and energy-sector customers.
  • Expand ConocoPhillips’ market presence within historically underrepresented intrastate and industrial market segments.
  • Evaluate customer needs and develop commercial solutions that create value for both customers and ConocoPhillips.
  • Increase market visibility and commercial access across Louisiana intrastate pipeline systems and regional markets.
  • Monitor regional supply, demand, transportation, and pricing dynamics to identify business opportunities.
  • Build and maintain a strong network of counterparties, customers, and industry contacts.
  • Represent ConocoPhillips in the marketplace and strengthen the company’s commercial presence throughout the region.
  • Structure and negotiate physical natural gas transactions that leverage existing transportation, production, and supply positions.
  • Collaborate with trading teams to align transactions with market conditions, pricing strategies, and portfolio objectives.
  • Support optimization of existing assets and transportation arrangements.
  • Integrate originated business into the broader Gulf Coast and North American gas portfolio.
  • Partner closely with natural gas traders, commercial analysts, schedulers, and structured transaction teams.
  • Support commercial evaluations through market analysis, pricing assessments, and financial modeling.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to advance short-, medium-, and long-term commercial opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, risk controls, and commercial governance requirements.

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business, Economics, Finance, Energy Management, Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related discipline; or equivalent industry experience.
  • Experience in natural gas marketing, origination, trading, scheduling, commercial operations, or a related energy commercial function.
  • Knowledge of physical natural gas markets, transportation, and commercial structures.
  • Ability to develop and maintain customer and counterparty relationships.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in Louisiana, Gulf Coast, or Southeast U.S. natural gas markets.
  • Knowledge of interstate and intrastate pipeline systems, including exposure to Louisiana market infrastructure.
  • Commercial experience supporting industrial end-users, energy-intensive industries, or natural gas consumers.
  • Understanding of physical gas transportation, pricing mechanisms, and regional market fundamentals.
  • Experience evaluating commercial opportunities and negotiating physical gas transactions.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and execute value-generating commercial opportunities.
  • Working knowledge of natural gas market hubs, including Henry Hub and Gulf Coast pricing locations.
  • Proficiency with commercial analytics, market intelligence tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
